TURN YOUR LONGING INTO A CALLING
MOVEMENTS & MOMENTS
Through Becoming a Teacher,
We are Forever a Student
In 2011 I was teaching Pilates in a boutique studio, I managed the clients and facilitated the APMA trainings for years alongside my mentor, owner of MLPS. Concurrently I was completing my 500hr yoga teacher training. During a meet up with another yoga trainee she showed me the new ‘craze’ of Aerial on her phone. The vid was from USA; I knew immediately I wanted to try a session. When I researched classes close to me I found it hadn’t yet arrived in Australia, and upon contacting the one studio in Brisbane I was invited to the very first AntiGravity® Instructor Training with the international founder Christopher Harrison.
The 4-day training was epic. The volume of syllabus presented was huge (the syllabus has since been extracted into weeks of training), we were completely immersed in this new and life-changing modality. After the flood of information and with hammocks in hand I traveled through Australia and muddled along trying to teach 1-1 privates with my friends (hooking the rigging up at playgrounds to begin).
Very quickly I noticed the huge interest in the modality, and so I installed suspension points in my home studio. I was busy. Multiple daily sessions, my students came from everywhere; they were movement teachers, yogis, PT coaches, stuntmen, dancers, athletes & bodybuilders. This first wave of clients taught me the biggest lessons - to slow down into the pace of a session, to incorporate the breath, to work three-dimensionally in all planes of movement, to sequence for maximum flow and minimal disorientation.
Over the years I expanded, moving spaces multiple times and adding silks as I went; from 3 hammocks to 6 hammocks and then to 14 hammocks. I became pregnant with my first child, and decided to train experienced students into teachers, so I could take maternity leave while continuing our classes. The demand for my mentoring grew and so I wrote multiple manuals that expanded substantially on the initial syllabus. Due to firsthand learning from teaching I changed the terminologies and added all the things I had gained from instructing students of all ages and pathologies. I have been blessed to have had so many people trust myself and my team with their movement journey.
On a path to teaching you realise fast how important the gift of trust is; this trust is a vital connection ~ something I am forever grateful for. And what is truly wonderful is the relationships and bonds formed over time are deeply sincere. Sometimes clients require the modality daily, while others come and go over the period of many years. We have created a space to accommodate the changing needs of all our community.
If the path of facilitating is calling you, we have created the opportunity to join a worldwide movement and become an Aerial Movement Instructor. Whether you are looking to expand your skill set or to step into a new career, our Aerial Movement Training Courses might be exactly what you are looking for. These trainings are a journey into yourself, and an opportunity to embody Aerial Movement completely.
The Aerial Movement L1 Syllabus is a fusion of movement techniques from yoga, fitness, pilates and dance. During the course our trainees learn safety, postural assessment, client pathologies and sequences. But more than that, we create a foundation to build upon and add to, I personally love how each individual forges their own personal teaching style.
If the opportunity to dive deeper into Aerial Movement resonates with your heart please reach out, we would love to talk more about our offerings.
